Before joining Baltic Cable in February, Oscar Larsson built technical experience in the energy sector. He has worked in both operational and leadership roles at one of Sweden’s biggest energy companies – covering voltage levels between 30 and 130 kV. With a degree in electrical engineering from Lund University, Oscar brings both technical depth and practical insight to his new role.
We asked Oscar a few questions for you to get to know him better:
Can you explain your role as Technical Expert at Baltic Cable?
“Since I recently joined the company, I am focused on learning as much as possible and understanding where I can contribute the most in the long term. This could be everything from relay protection configuration and planning maintenance at the 400 kV AC switchyard to optimize our operation instruction. A key part of my learning phase is spending time at the station together with colleagues to get a closer view of the technical setup and daily operations. Over time, my role as Technical Expert will become more clearly defined, and I will support both the Swedish and German sides of the business.”
What inspired you to pursue a career in the energy industry?
“It is a field where a lot is going on – and I like that. The industry is always evolving, which makes it both exciting and stimulating to work in.”
What projects are you working on right now?
“The plan is to help coordinate the project to build a new switchgear at the Swedish station. I am also looking into how our operator instructions can be upgraded to make responsibilities and procedures clearer and reduce the risk of misunderstandings and interruptions. Another important area is long-term maintenance planning and identifying trends in how components are performing and planning actions before issues become critical.”
What do you enjoy most about your work at Baltic Cable?
“Working close to the technology – I get to spend a lot of my time at the station where it is all happening. Also, at Baltic Cable, the distance between people is short, decisions move fast, and I already feel that I can influence and see the results of the work I am doing.”
How would you describe Baltic Cable’s role in the energy sector?
“From my previous work with preparedness and infrastructure issues, I know how important interconnectors are for both security of supply and the wider energy market. As a link between Sweden and Germany, Baltic Cable has an important societal function, and I believe that role will continue to grow in significance.”
What do you like to do outside of work?
I have been bowling for around 5 years and nowadays I spend a lot of my time playing and regularly compete with my club in Lund. I also arrange gin and tonic tastings on the side, which has become a fun interest of mine – the favourite garnish to a gin and tonic right now is raspberry.
