Christian has dedicated his whole career to the energy industry. With a MSc in Engineering Physics, he started off as a project manager for wind power development and then moved on to different electricity and gas grid businesses. His expertise lies in analytical, financial and regulatory matters related to distribution and transmission of energy. Christian now celebrates one year at Baltic Cable and helping the company navigate the regulatory landscape of the European energy market.
We asked Christian a few questions for you to get to know him better:
Can you explain your role as Energy Market Expert at Baltic Cable?
“As part of the regulatory team, one of my main responsibilities revolves around the fact that the income earned by interconnectors, and how it can be used to cover costs, is governed by EU regulations and supervised by national authorities. Under this scope, I work with compliance, modelling, forecasting, interactions with the authorities and the development of long-term conditions. Baltic Cable holds a unique position and must be up to speed on these matters”
What inspired you to pursue a career in the energy industry?
“My father worked with nuclear energy, and it spiked my interest early on. There’s even a model of uranium fission that I created in middle school woodcrafts to attest to this! Later, lectures in my university studies opened my eyes to how crucial the energy system is – every second is essential for all other societal functions, creating a certain thrill to it all.”
What do you enjoy most about your work at Baltic Cable?
“It is a very warm and friendly workplace with a great atmosphere and great colleagues with so much knowledge and expertise. We are a small company in a large context, right in the heart of the energy market. The questions we handle as a team are complex and diverse, and I find it very stimulating. I engage in environmental, legal, regulatory, technical and financial matters on a weekly basis.”
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
“You are the best experienced, competent and most comfortable being yourself. No one benefits from playing a role to suit his or her professional role.”
What do you like to do outside of work?
“Anything involving a ball will have me running like a labrador retriever. I also love being active outdoors, such as hiking, alpine skiing or swimming in the sea. If someone ever invented a combination of skiing and ball sports, that would be great. Alpine dodgeball, anyone?”
