Eva Marie has been part of Baltic Cable’s story since the very beginning. With a long career in the energy industry – from the early days at Sydkraft to her recent role as Financial Controller at Baltic Cable – she has played a key role in shaping the company into what it is today. Now, after 22 years, Eva Marie is ready to close this chapter and look ahead to a well-deserved retirement.
We asked Eva Marie a few questions for you to get to know her even better:
Can you explain your role as Financial Controller at Baltic Cable?
“My role has included everything from handling daily accounting and managing invoices and payments, to preparing reports for different stakeholders. I have also been responsible for preparing documents to the tax- and vat coordination for Germany. Since we operate cross-border, collaboration and flexibility have always been central in my day-to-day work.”
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
“Don’t regret what you did – but what you never did.”
What are some of your best memories from your years at Baltic Cable?
“There are many! When Statkraft became our owner of 100 percent we were invited to the Nobel Peace Prize gala in Oslo– that was a special moment to be part of. Completing a one-year controller course in Stockholm was another proud achievement. I’ve also really enjoyed Baltic Cable becoming a certified TSO and welcoming new colleagues over the years. And of course, our 30th anniversary celebration stands out as a memorable milestone.”
How has Baltic Cable changed as a company during your time here?
“I could write a book! We’ve had several different owners, changed auditors, and implemented new administrative routines. When Statkraft took over, we had to quickly find a new office – during Christmas in 2010, no less. I found our space at Gustav Adolfs Torg in Malmö, which suited our small team perfectly. Today, we are a much larger team and part of a wider network with strong internal and external support.”
If you had to summarize your career in one sentence, what would it be?
“Exciting, challenging, and varied – I’ve stayed here for a reason.”
What are your plans for retirement?
“After a lifetime of commitment to my work, I’m looking forward to what lies ahead – to wake up with a blank page, enjoy life and finally do all those things I never had time for when working full time.”
On behalf of the entire Baltic Cable team, we want to thank Eva Marie for these years and wish her joy and good fortune as she enters this new chapter — a well-deserved retirement!
