Baltic Cable AB was established in 1991 and the cable, connecting the Swedish and German electricity markets, became operational in 1994. To the benefit of all European consumers, Baltic Cable is securing energy supply and European market integration. In 2019 Baltic Cable became certified as a TSO in Germany, whereby a new landmark in the company’s history was set. As a consequence, Baltic Cable has now embarked on an exciting and unique journey into the world of European TSO’s. A journey that includes new, interesting and challenging tasks in the fields of economic, commercial, technical, legal & regulatory matters related to the European electricity markets. The company is thus in an expansive phase with ongoing and new projects and assignments to be initiated and realized.

Baltic Cable is now hiring a proactive and business-oriented Legal Counsel who wants to work in an international context. The position is full time and based at the headquarter in central Malmö. You will play an important role in the future success of the company.

About the position

You are offered a wide, challenging and developing position with significant responsibility and will have the possibility to influence both your own role and the shaping of Baltic Cable within the boundaries of legal and regulation. You will hold an important role in the transition journey Baltic Cable has commenced and will be the representative of Baltic Cable in contexts both on a national level in Sweden and Germany and on a European level. You will also provide legal advice and support to the management team and the various departments and projects.

As a Legal Counsel at Baltic Cable, you will both handle your own cases and collaborate with our external lawyers both in Sweden and internationally as well as with internal colleagues. It is therefore important that you can work independently as well as in a team. It is also important that you are eager to learn, have a quick grasp and is open to work with a great variety of topics.

Since most of the work is internationally focused, there will be some travel, even if most meetings take place digitally.

You will report to the Legal & Regulatory Director.

Your profile

We are looking for a legal counsel or corporate lawyer who has at least 4 years of relevant business law experience. Both experience from a company/group legal department or from a corporate law firm is valuable. Previous experience from the energy sector and/or infrastructure sector and/or international business law is a merit.

You have a Master’s degree in Law from a Swedish or European university.

We see it as an advantage if you have previously worked with one or more of the areas of law in focus for the role.

You are fluent in speaking and writing Swedish and English. If you also master the German language, it is a merit.

As a person you are business-oriented, proactive and result driven. You are also curious and unafraid to handle new areas of law and legal issues. Further, an entrepreneurial mindset, capability to work independently, take own initiatives and assume responsibility is critical in this position. You are a team player who understands different perspectives and can provide a balanced overview of available alternatives with a recommendation regarding the preferred approach. You are good at communicating, networking and you can manage relationships both internally and externally. You enjoy working in an international context.

About the organisation

Baltic Cable is part of Europe’s electricity network. Baltic Cable turnover 2021 was MSEK 855 and the company today has 11 employees. The headquarter is in central Malmö.

The Baltic Cable is an underwater high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line. It runs 260 kilometres between Lübeck in Germany and Kruseberg in Sweden. It is the only interconnector between the price zones Germany/Luxemburg and Sweden 4 making Baltic Cable a vital part of the European electricity network.
